INTRODUCING A BREAKTHROUGH IN ELECTRONIC WHITEBOARDS
-- PolyVision Demonstrates the Industry’s First Multimedia Whiteboard at
Presentations & Training Conference --

Atlanta, Ga. (February 24, 2003) – A few months ago the concept of a ‘walk up and use’ multimedia whiteboard was as far fetched as the Internet during the seventies. Today, it is as easy as walking to booth 609 to see the Impulse™ LTX system, the industry’s first multimedia whiteboard in action at Presentations 2003.

PolyVision Corporation, a Steelcase Inc. Company (NYSE:SCS) and worldwide visual communication leader, developed the Impulse LTX multimedia whiteboard system with one goal in mind – simplicity. Michael Dunn, chief executive officer of PolyVision says, “When people can walk up to our products and understand how to use them immediately, we have a winner. We had to create an integrated whiteboard solution that was so easy to use, no training was required. Our development team learned through research and our experience with our CopyCam Image Capturing System, that if you provide basic functionality in an easy to use, intuitive package, you eliminate a major barrier to adoption.”

The Impulse LTX system was specifically designed for corporate and learning environments where there is a need for size and simplicity. Adoption rates are highest where communities of users needed to combine spontaneous capture of whiteboard work with the redisplay of archived information, either written or projected. The new multimedia whiteboard system allows users to:

  • Walk up and use the first electronic whiteboard in the industry that does not require pre-meeting setup for use – it doesn’t need to be turned on to operate, it doesn’t need a computer, and the user doesn’t have to be trained;
  • Capture written notes spontaneously through patent pending technology that instantly saves images at the click of a button allowing users to:
    • Print to a wireless printer,
    • Save it to a disk,
    • Save to an internal archive for access later from the board or from the local area network;
  • Use infinite whiteboard surface allowing seamless brainstorming by instantly recalling written notes or presentations made on the board and stored in its internal archive;
  • Instantly connect a laptop to the board and display images and information without having to load any software;
  • Interact with projected images without standing in the way by projecting on any part of the board and navigating from anywhere else on the board, a technology called relative mousing. Print and archive the combined information with the touch of one button; and redisplay when needed;
  • Add multimedia functionality to presentations through integrated audio speakers.

With sizes up to 4’ x 12’, the Impulse LTX system is the largest and only interactive whiteboard available on the market today and is scheduled to begin shipping in April 2003. Following successful beta testing at national and international corporate and learning environments, customers are already on a waiting list for the first deliveries.
