POLYVISION ELIMINATES THE TABLET PC AND LAPTOP “GROUP HUDDLE” WITH NEW TABLETBOARD AND IMPULSE LTX SYSTEMS
-- New Visual Communication Systems Bring Personal Ideas to Large Format --

Orlando, Fl. (June 5, 2003) – In 1841 the innovation of cutting large pieces of slate allowed students to expand from huddling around individual writing slates to working in group collaboration with the invention of the chalkboard. Nearly 160 years later, we find ourselves in the same scenario. Today’s workers and students focus on individual slates once again with the boom of Tablet PCs. PolyVision, the world leader in visual communication and a Steelcase Company (NYSE: SCS), is taking innovation one step further with three new systems that bring PC-reliant individual work to large format interactive displays.

“What good is a great idea if you can’t share it with others? Picture a group of four of five people in a group huddled around a Tablet or a desktop computer. We knew there was a better way to work,” said Mike Dunn, PolyVision president and CEO. “Through user behavioral studies, we saw a huge need in the marketplace and developed products that don’t change the way you work, but support and enhance existing work practices.”

At InfoComm 2003, PolyVision is announcing the following visual communication systems to support the transition from individual work to group collaboration:

  • TabletBoard™ interactive plasma system is a classic large-format, interactive companion display for a tablet computer powered by a 50” plasma screen. By connecting a Tablet PC to the TabletBoard, it instantly converts the screen to a giant Tablet PC, immediately allowing users to move from the “I” work space to the “We” space. Users can operate anything on the screen the same as on a tablet PC, while the large format allows for interaction with multiple users and viewers. With PolyKey™ technology for instant plug and play, users do not have to load new software to use the board – they simply install the board as one would a printer driver, as an example.
  • Impulse LTX™ multimedia whiteboard system allows users to instantly connect a PC to the board to project and interact with images and programs. Newly announced LTX capabilities include:
    • On-Board Scanner allows users to walk into a meeting and scan handwritten notes, agendas or a hard copy directly onto the board to instantly view the image in digital format and save, modify, print or save the information.
    • LiveView™ Technology allows user to send a live video feed of what is written or projected on the board to display on large overhead screens in real-time. This allows presenters in stadium sized rooms to continue their current teaching pedagogy without having to learn new technology or instructing format.

Each of the three systems are poised for rapid adoption within the corporate and higher education markets. TabletBoard is available immediately, and the Impulse LTX with on-board scanner and/or LiveView technology will be available in 2004.
