MEXICAN GOVERNMENT SELECTS POLYVISION U.S. Company Introduces Interactive Content Delivery to Neighboring Country’s Classrooms Atlanta – (Dec. 8, 2004) – PolyVision Corporation, a subsidiary of Steelcase Inc. (NYSE:SCS) and the worldwide leader in visual communication products, will provide interactive whiteboard technology for the Mexican government’s Secretary of Education (SEP). PolyVision, along with Rizzo Commercial, its distributor in Monterey, Mexico, was chosen to introduce next-generation education technology in Mexican classrooms via its Touch-Sensitive (TS) Series interactive whiteboards. “The Mexican government was thoroughly impressed with the positive impact interactive whiteboards have had in K-12 schools throughout the United States in creating learning environments where students are more actively engaged in the learning process,” said Mike Dunn, president and CEO of PolyVision. “PolyVision and Rizzo Commercial now get to duplicate that paradigm for our neighboring schools. These products will allow Mexican teachers and students to interact with technology and content in a manner that was previously absent.” The foundation for this initiative is tied to the Enclomedia software the SEP uses as its curriculum content for K-12 teachers in 22,000 classrooms across the country. Because Enclomedia is PC-based, the Mexican government identified “content delivery” as a major challenge facing educators. Enclomedia’s content needed to be interactive as well as displayed in a large enough format for students to see. The government selected PolyVision because of its interactive whiteboard system which seamlessly integrates the use of a PC, projector and document camera to capture and project images. In particular, PolyVision’s TS Series interactive whiteboards allow users to capture, annotate and highlight information as well as distribute it in a variety of methods not available with standard erase-able whiteboards. Captured information can then be printed, emailed, faxed, or uploaded to the Internet. Additionally, the product-specific software for the TS Series interactive whiteboards is available in Spanish, which was another major factor in the Mexican government’s decision to select PolyVision. “Research shows over and over again that technology when used in innovative ways within classrooms leads to improved teaching and learning,” said Dunn. “With the help of PolyVision’s industry-leading technology, the Mexican government has taken a significant step in improving education in their country. It joins the ranks of other progressive countries in developing classrooms of the future. Because of our ongoing commitment to provide reliable, easy-to-use products to the K-12 market and our demonstrated expertise in offering technology that supports teachers’ existing work practices and tools, we were Mexico’s natural choice.” The delivery of whiteboards is slated for 2004-2005. The company projects to have the Spanish software installation completed by December 2004 and ready for use by educators in early 2005. A built-in Spanish tutorial will be available to help teachers get started. Rizzo Commercial will assist with customer and technical support. In addition, PolyVision will have Spanish-speaking representatives available to support the project.
